Training in Action (TiNA) was a capacity building programme for heritage professionals in Tunisia and Libya supported by funding from the UK’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) through the Cultural Protection Fund (CPF). The project was led by Professor Anna Leone of the Department of Archaeology at Durham University.
The TiNA project emerged as a response to key threats to cultural heritage in Tunisia and Libya. It aimed to train the next generation of heritage professionals in both countries in order to build individual and institutional capacity and to support the safeguarding and interpretation of the enormously rich heritage of both countries for the future. TiNA pioneered an innovative model of training, ranging across specific aspects of heritage protection, IT, project management and leadership.
In addition, the project supported the development of the Heritage Documentation and Protection (HeDAP) platform and associated database. The HeDAP platform has contributed to establishing Libya’s National Museum Database.
The evaluation involved mixed mode research and involved the participation of local researchers in both countries.
To complement the comprehensive impact evaluation report, a video was developed to bring the programme to life and to showcase the testimonies of TiNA participant.
Many thanks to all video participants and in particular to Professor Anna Leone (Durham University) and Chris Boyd (Filmmaker) for embracing the evaluation process in new and exciting ways.
