Trust Pays

A ground-breaking programme of research and analysis to evidence the link between Cultural Relations activities and levels of inter-cultural trust

The ultimate aim of institutions and programmes built around Cultural Relations and Intercultural Dialogue is typically an increase in levels of trust between different communities and cultures. Yet, there has been very little empirical evidence of a relation between the two.

Trust Pays, developed in collaboration with the British Council, was one of the first attempts to generate empirical evidence of the connection between Cultural Relations and levels of inter-cultural trust.

We helped to develop the underlying research hypothesis and to design the research survey and strategy. We undertook analysis of the results, including multiple regression to identify individual drivers of trust, and led the writing of the final report.

The report remains an important and oft-cited contribution to the fields of Cultural Relations, Soft Power and International Relations.
